As Cha said: “These are like the table and chairs from Nana’s!” and indeed they were. Formica table-tops, steel frame chairs and tables, old-style salt and pepper shakers, old-style signs (not all actually with old “content” – retro-city indeed.
Also, good service – staff were great, owners clearly care, food was as quick as you would wish for. (And you can see the high-chair and the kids books, etc, in the background above.)
Oh, and really good food
Menu items that tempted me:
montreal french toast … maple syrup drizzled french toast dusted with powdered sugar topped with bacon ($13.50)
field mushroom … grilled mushroom with caramelised onion, goat’s cheese on wilted spinach & sourdough rye toast ($12.50)
omelette … oven baked & served with sourdough rye toast (allow minimum 15 min) ham+cheese+tomato – pumpkin+feta+pinenuts – mushroom+spinach+goats cheese – salmon+feta+spinach
What we actually had: verb’s big breakfast … fried eggs served with bacon, parmesan pork sausage, wilted spinach, tomato, grilled haloumi, onion jam & toast ($16.50)
I just can’t resist the big breakfast. Especially with onion jam! And it was great.
Toast was nice.
Haloumi was great, and the fried tomato seemed to have traces of cheese on the fried surface. Mmmm.
Eggs were beautifully poached.
TLDR: Liked it a lot, get along if you’re anywhere nearby.
